Being silent about HIV can contribute to HIV infections. HIV stigma hurts individuals and the community as a whole. People are discriminated against, disowned from families, and fired from jobs. But by understanding its cause and listening to others’ experiences, we can help end HIV stigma through knowledge and action.

HIV Awareness Day

Sharing your story and learning from each other helps cultivate positive change for everyone. Your voice is important and we encourage you to get involved on HIV Awareness Day, whether it’s attending an event or simply listening to and supporting someone with HIV.

On May 19 — the National Asian & Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, organizations around the country host events in their communities to raise awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS-related stigma. Get involved by attending an event in your area.
