Breaking Free by Kenya C.

About This Video

Kenya is a Filipino American gay man living with HIV. His story touches on some of the factors that increased his HIV risk–military service and a resulting PTSD diagnosis, drug use, the awkward and unspoken familial acceptance of his sexual orientation–and the ways HIV treatment and support services have changed his life.

What does this video tell us about stigma?
How do supportive services help people stay in treatment? Kenya struggles with drug use and PTSD along with his HIV diagnosis. While treating HIV is important, we have to make sure that the other needs of people living with the virus are met, since those needs can overpower the need for HIV care.
